        Virginia Historical Society Labor Exhibition

This Labor Day, the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) will open an exhibition that is the first of its kind in our state.  “Organized Labor in Virginia” provides an in-depth look at the history of trade unionism in the Old Dominion, from its earliest stages with the Knights of Labor through the middle of the twentieth century. The Virginia AFL-CIO is fortunate to be one of the funders for “Organized Labor in Virginia”.

The VHS has uncovered a story rich in human interest.  Although Virginia might not leap to mind for many as a strong union state, its history shows the powerful appeal of the fight for workers’ rights -- even in the face of social and government opposition.

The VHS will be hosting an opening reception for the exhibition.  The event will be held at the Virginia Historical Society building, 428 North Boulevard, Richmond, VA, on September 16, 2010, at 6:00 p.m.    We hope that you will attend.
